Ernest Eugene “Ernie” Sowers of Blackwell, OK, died Friday afternoon January 9, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years.
Ernest Eugene “Ernie” Sowers was born in Dexter, Kansas, on February 5, 1923. He was the son of Clarence and Helen (Steiner) Sowers. He was raised on a farm east of Dexter, Kansas, and graduated from Winfield High School in 1941. Following his education he entered the United States Marine Corps in 1942 serving in World War II and was discharged in September 1945. Following his discharge he moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, and began working at Blackwell Auto Parts. He married Dephia Willbanks on June 9, 1947, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Blackwell. He later began working for The Automotive Inc, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He also held membership in the American Legion Post # 7 in Blackwell.
He is survived by his wife Dephia Sowers of Blackwell, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Nolene Dryden, Theora Rutherford and Florence Waldrolf.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 12th in the Braman Cemetery in Braman, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church in Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Bill Wilson, JoDel Shepherd, Les Cartwright, Frank Dyer, Chad Shepherd and Richard Jergandau.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the First Christian Church in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
